Talks &  Workshops for Teachers

Hester's talks, workshops and webinars are specifically designed to help teachers and teaching staff feel fully supported in their work. Please note that Hester runs many bespoke talks for schools where specific topics need to be covered.

These can all be run either as a 1.5-hour talk
or a longer, more interactive, 3-hour workshop for your team.

Excellent Communication Skills for Teachers
1.5-hour talk or 3-hour interactive workshop

This supports teachers in developing brilliant communication skills, which are useful not only in the classroom and staff room, but also with parents who are upset, concerned or even confrontational about what may be going on for their child. It gives teachers a great understanding of how to manage their own state, as well as that of the person with whom they are communicating. The techniques are highly applicable to all areas of one's life. This talk (or workshop) covers:
  • How to feel calm and confident when faced with upset or aggressive parents
  • Ways to defuse confrontational situations
  • The importance of using positive language patterns
  • How to give constructive feedback to parents about various situations
  • How to actively listen and how to be heard
  • How to build ongoing respectful relationships with parents.

Empowerment and wellbeing for Teachers
1.5-hour talk or 3-hour interactive workshop

Many of us can get into the habit of living with constant stress and/or anxiety and often choose to ignore both unless they manifest themselves physically, rendering us incapable of doing the things we need to do. This talk is, essentially, all about empowering teachers to look after themselves through being assertive, boundaried and knowing what good self care looks like for them.  This talk (or workshop) covers:
  • Understanding and managing stress and anxiety
  • How to avoid being pulled into other people’s dramas
  • How to be assertive (even in the face of upset or anger)
  • Coaching others to take the pressure off yourself
  • Positive steps to boosting your own mental wellbeing

Building Resilience and Independence in Pupils

This talk examines how teachers can build up their pupils' resilience when facing life's inevitable challenges. The talk provides teachers with easily applicable tools to help children deal with failure or disappointment and learn how to pick themselves up and keep going (and supports them in teaching the importance of doing so). This talk (or workshop) covers:
  • The importance of building pupils' resilience
  • The building blocks to resilience and how to put them in place
  • How to help pupils take responsibility for their relationships and for their decisions
  • How to coach pupils and build their problem solving skills
  • How to support children who are experiencing anxiety and help them move through it
  • How to help your pupils move out of their comfort zone towards their goals.

Dealing with Bullying Behaviour and Building Social Skills (an Anti-bullying Workshop)

This talk focuses on supporting teachers in coaching their pupils around any social difficulties their pupils may be facing. Through learning easily applicable techniques and strategies, teachers attending will learn how to empower their pupils by teaching them the art of making friends, maintaining good relationships and handling playground conflicts. This talk (or workshop) covers:
  • How to coach pupils through any issues they are facing
  • How to successfully mediate between pupils when there is conflict or disagreement
  • Understanding how to assist pupils in learning the art of great communication
  • How to help pupils deal effectively with friendship and/or bullying issues
  • How to help a pupil doing bulling behaviour to make better choices going forward
  • How to assist pupils in understanding what we need to do to make (and keep!) friends.
