Children & Adolescents

One-to-one psychotherapy and coaching

Children from 7 to 12 years old

We offer one-to-one coaching and therapy for children who could do with some extra support or who have specific issues that need addressing. These sessions are completely tailored to the specific interests and preferences of your child. Whilst some children with a very specific need can benefit from a one-off session, the majority of children benefit from around 6 sessions which take place approximately once a fortnight. This allows a therapeutic relationship to become established so that different topics and issues can be explored. The focus is on providing your child with a greater understanding of themselves and their strengths whilst giving them different tools to deal with situations that they may, previously, have found difficult. These issues may include the following:
  • Friendship issues and/or bullying
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anxiety and/or depression
  • Coping with loss (through death or divorce)
  • Understanding and managing emotions
  • Self-harm and/or suicidal ideation
The initial session is always for the parents. In this session, I meet with one (or both) parent(s), without the child present. This is so that I can support you in supporting your child and ensure that we are all working in a similar way to ensure the best outcome for your child. This session lasts 55 minutes and costs £120.

After this session, your child will be allocated either to me or one of my Assistant Psychologists depending on the best fit for them.  Once allocated, we will arrange a 15/20 minute 'hello-meet' where your child will meet the person they will be working with. They will see the room they will be in, so that they know exactly what to expect when they come to the practice. During this session, you and your child will be involved in discussing the areas where support is needed and what everyone believes should be the focus of the sessions.  There is no charge for this 'hello-meet'.

After this session, either myself or one of my Assistant Psychologists will work one-to-one with your child. Sessions last 55 minutes and cost £120 with me (or £100 with one of my Assistant Psychologists). Please know that I remained involved every step of the way, even if your child is not working directly with me.

Teenagers 13 - 19 years old

Adolescence is a transitional phase of physical and psychological development; it can also be a time of huge pressure and uncertainty. Teenage cognitive development tends to result in greater self-awareness, greater awareness of others (including their thoughts and judgments) as well as an increased ability to think about abstract, future possibilities.

We work directly with teenagers who wish to have support in dealing to with anything they may be finding difficult. These may include the following issues:

  • Friendships issues and/or bullying issues
  • Low self-esteem and/or feelings of self consciousness
  • Anxiety and/or depression
  • Coping with loss (through death or divorce)
  • Gaining a deeper understanding of self
  • Self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts

Most teenagers benefit from coming fortnightly for around 6 to 8 sessions, which allows time for different topics and issues to be discussed and explored. It also allows time for newly learnt behavioural patterns to start to be utilised and integrated.

Sessions last 55 minutes and cost £120 with me or £100 with one of my Assistant Psychologists.
